In Upper Rissington, a village in Gloucestershire in central England, the parish council met on 20 October 2025, and the benches in Jubilee Gardens came up.

The benches at the front of the gardens were overdue for refurbishment and maintenance, and an oak bench at the back was likewise reported to need attention.

A volunteer had offered to treat that oak bench with linseed oil. The council did not approve the request at this time of year.

The council decided that the clerk would draw up a specification and obtain quotes, aiming to have the work done during 2026; the clerk was also to instruct a contractor to cut back the shrubs behind the front benches.
