In the market square of Butzbach, Hesse, a statue of a cat was unveiled. It is made of bronze.

The cat was named Woody. Kept as a free-roaming cat, it liked to wander the old town and would call in at restaurants and shops. It was known around town as 'the town tomcat.'

Woody died a little over a year ago.

The statue was funded by the old-town association, with support from the town.

The plaque beside it lists three words the affectionate cat is meant to call to mind: community, solidarity, openness.
